Description
U.S.A.A.F. Tuskegee Airman, 1943-45
Honor the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen with this detailed figure, representing the U.S. Army Air Forces' first African American fighter squadron, the 99th Pursuit Squadron. Trained at the Tuskegee Institute, these brave aviators earned the nickname "Tuskegee Airmen" and were also known as the "Red Tails" after painting the tail assemblies of their fighters a distinctive crimson.
The Tuskegee Airmen excelled in their mission to protect bombers, losing only 27 out of 179 bomber escort missions—a remarkable record. Notably, during a mission to destroy a tank factory in Berlin, they shot down three German Me 262 jets in a single day. Their exemplary service earned them three Distinguished Unit Citations.
