Signed by Maurice Renaud on 5/13/2019 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force during the 75th commemoration event for the rememberance of D-Day. He is one of the three sons of Alexandre Renaud, Mayor of Sainte Mere Eglise and he is in the book in print and photograph.
In the starlit night of the 5th and 6th of June, 1944, Alexandre Renaud, then mayor of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, saw the first U.S. paratroopers land in Normandy. In the following hours, he witnessed the Liberation of this village, house by house and street by street. The notes he took from day-to-day give rise to a precise and vivid account of these fights, which were crucial for the success of the following on landings. Here after Africa and Sicily, these crack soldiers faced the fierce resistance of the Germans and suffered heavy casualties.
This book, published in 1945, and a best-seller from 1945 - 1947, is a remarkable testimony by the author, enriched in its new presentation by many historical photographs never published before.
