Lieutenant Robin Olds Signed and Numbered Print, P-38 SCAT II. 479th Fighter Group, 434th Fighter Squadron
Robin Olds (July 14, 1922 – June 14, 2007) was an American fighter pilot and USAF general, achieving "triple ace" status with 17 victories in World War II and Vietnam. The son of Major General Robert Olds, he epitomized the WWII fighter pilot, later becoming a pioneer jet pilot. Retiring in 1973 as a brigadier general, Olds commanded two fighter wings in Vietnam, earning a reputation as the war's top wing commander. Despite his success, he faced challenges due to maverick views and a penchant for drinking, limiting his rise in the general officer ranks. His post-Vietnam career included roles at the Air Force Academy and the Inspector General's Office. Married to Hollywood actress Ella Raines, Olds was also recognized for his athletic achievements in football.
