The Atlantis (OV-104), NASA's fourth shuttle to undertake a space flight, made its debut on October 3, 1985, completing 33 missions over 26 years. After its successful mission to supply the International Space Station, Atlantis landed on July 21, 2011, marking the end of the space shuttle era. Now housed at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Atlantis serves as a museum.
Named after astronomer Edwin Hubble, the Hubble Space Telescope orbits in low Earth orbit and has been a pivotal instrument in astronomy since its launch by the Discovery shuttle on April 24, 1990. Serviced by the space shuttle Atlantis during the STS-125 mission in 2009, the Hubble received new instruments and essential repairs.
