Crafted and tested by aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright, the Wright Flyer made its historic first flight on December 17, 1903, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This aircraft was the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot on board.

On the momentous flight day, both Orville and Wilbur Wright took turns piloting the Wright Flyer. Orville made the first flight, staying airborne for 12 seconds and covering 120 feet. On the fourth and final flight, Wilbur flew for 59 seconds, traveling 852 feet. Unfortunately, a strong gust damaged the Flyer beyond repair after this flight, marking the end of its journey.
