Description

WWII Army Air Forces numbered 8th Air Force patch measures approximately 3 inches. Fully embroidered sew on patch.

The Eighth Air Force (8th AF) was one of the most famous and powerful combat air forces of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, serving as the primary American strategic bombing force in the European Theater. Activated in 1942 and based in England, it carried out sustained daylight bombing campaigns against Nazi Germany as part of the Allied Combined Bomber Offensive. Flying heavy bombers such as the B-17 and B-24, and later escorted by long-range fighters like the P-51 Mustang, Eighth Air Force targeted German aircraft factories, oil refineries, transportation networks, and military infrastructure. Despite suffering heavy casualties in the early years of the campaign, it played a decisive role in crippling Germany’s industrial capacity, achieving air superiority over Europe, and paving the way for the Allied invasion of Normandy and ultimate victory in Europe.
