Description

Honor the legacy of the 12th Air Force with a fully embroidered WWII-era patch. Built for crisp detail and long-term display. Approximately 3 inch size, fully embroidered, sew-on application.

The 12th Air Force was the quintessential Mediterranean powerhouse, activated in 1942 specifically to support Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of North Africa. Under the early leadership of General Jimmy Doolittle, it became a massive tactical organization that followed the front lines from the sands of Algeria and Tunisia across the Mediterranean to Sicily and the Italian mainland. While heavy bombers from the 12th eventually helped form the 15th Air Force, the remaining tactical units became the "flying artillery" for the grueling Italian campaign, specializing in Operation Strangle—a massive interdiction effort to cut off German supply lines through the Alps and the Apennines. By the end of the war, the 12th had perfected the art of tactical coordination, providing relentless close air support that proved decisive in the rugged, mountainous terrain of Southern Europe.
